Osimhen, Lookman Ditched as Eagles Fight for Bronze Against Egypt in AFCON 2025 Third-Place Play

Nigeria's Super Eagles face off against Egypt's Pharaohs in a third-place playoff battle for bronze at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Striker Victor Osimhen and midfielder Bryan Mbeumo were left on the bench as manager Jose Peseiro makes his final team selection.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face off against Egypt's Pharaohs in the third-place playoff of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, battling for bronze at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca. Nigeria's Odiong Ighalo scored two goals but was assisted by Osimhen as S’Eagles took a narrow lead in the match. The Eagles were later joined by fellow Super Eagles' team member Memphis Depay who came off the bench to score a late goal, however, S' Eagles' teammate, Bryan Mbeumo, looked as though he would be the one coming back from Nigeria's bench and did so, and ultimately came on in place of Osimhen and then Lookman
