Former US Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra has advanced to the California governor general election after winning a preliminary contest, according to an Associated Press projection on Friday night. The AP called the race for Becerra, setting him up for a matchup in the state's general election. Becerra is the first candidate with any formal experience in public office since the previous incumbent, Gavin Newsom. The official results of the election will be announced once they are certified by the California Secretary of State's office.
