Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee lost his Democratic primary to businesswoman Helena Foulkes on Wednesday, becoming the first sitting governor in the country since 2018 to be denied his party's nomination. McKee, a Democrat and incumbent governor, was defeated by Foulkes, a former CEO of Tufts University Medical Center. The outcome marks a rare defeat for an incumbent governor in a Democratic primary. Foulkes will now compete in the general election against Republican challenger Steven Laffrey.
